INCENTIVE/FIT: spoilers and cw for self-harm!
It's not uncommon to regret a suicide attempt which is why, for example, one hears of awful stories about overdose victims driving themselves to the hospital only to find out it's too late. Kavinsky picked a pretty fast-acting way to die, specifically, by using his dream powers to create a fiery dragon that he brought into reality, using it to destroy most of his other dream-possessions, and then turning it against himself. On the 4th of July. While a slew of drunk and high and otherwise horrified teenagers looked on, some of them yelling at him to cut it out. To provide a frame of reference for his mental state at the time, Kavinsky's last words were something along the lines of, The world is a nightmare. The reliable witness determined that the dragon he created was composed purely of hatred, not only for the person themself, but for Kavinsky and the entire world.
However, given 5 minutes to think it over with a tangible, magical solution, he would absolutely ask for a way out.
When asked about incentives, Kavinsky's initial request would be to kill his father, who would be a pretty convenient pooping ground for all of his misbehavior! If that was refused, however, as I think it probably would be, he would accept any type of revised lifetime in which he still gets to "be himself" (conscious rather than comatose, similar impulsive/hilarious (according to himself)/adrenaline junkie personality, etc.) but not want to kill himself. By extension, he'd mean he would want a world, a life, and a version of himself that he wouldn't hate. He'd accept that without any concretized promise of prolonged longevity or a happy ending. If it's significant for future NPC interaction, at no point would he demand to have Ronan choose to love him back romantically or whatever, as it was always an option to create himself such a human toy for such purposes, and he clearly chose not to.
SAMPLES: TDM thread but specifically bothering Adam Parrish and texting with April Ludgate seem to cover length and types.
ANYTHING ELSE? spoilers again ahh ahh
Kavinsky has the ability to manifest physical objects from his dreams. I'm given to understand I should limit the destructiveness of these objects down to 'can destroy a car' and no more, which is actually fairly consistent with canon. Demonstrably, that is what the one monster we see him 'summon' can do. There are few other real limitations to his powers, as the objects covered by dreaming can include vehicles that function without engines, perfect forgeries, etc. He will also be arriving with his car, a white Mitsubishi [Evo?] and a silver pistol that has DREAM KILLER engraved on the muzzle.
I plan to set up a consent/opt out page, due to the canon's [relatively] realistic portrayal of drug use, self-harm, consent issues, etc.!
Additionally, I would like to establish that off-screen, Kavinsky agreed he will not be able to make sentient dream-creatures. Part of this will be because there's always the risk that they're 'designed' with particular docility or accommodations to Kavinsky's personality which invalidates consent. However, there's also the concern that when he goes home, the 'connection' will be broken and the creature, capable of free will or not, will be stuck in a comatose state.![]()
