I can relate, but I'm sure my other self could as well. Did he ask you if you *wanted* to feel some pain too?

Well aren't you just a wicked bastardization of a stained glass window now. Or perhaps we both are, in different ways.

Talents like yours should only be pried away from your cold dead hands. And even then, it would never be theirs to take. There's a reason they're your powers and not someone else's.

It's generally how we both sound, though I doubt it was actually all that low-key.

And I don't feel like either one of us is any more or less authentic than the other, we're just products of our situations. Mine just didn't have the same kind of push I had so he hadn't advanced himself nearly as much as I did. Maybe he would have in time, but why let him retread old ground when we could just skip that over? Plus, from what I understand I gained back a few years physically. But hey, time's a construct, so the internet sardonically saying these days.

But you, as you pointed out, seem to have the opposite experience here.

As I said, it's all about circumstance. It tends to forge us into different kinds of weapons. Even the Joseph I knew, as far away from you as he was.

And you're right, another Vale Aesthetic is he and I certainly don't lack ambition, but my other self still had some issues with myopia whereas I'd managed to expand my scope of view.

Do you resent him? Your other self who skipped those four years and this place?

And why is that? You said you're about as different from one another as possible. What of his do you wish you had? And what of you do you think he lacked?

That's only half the answer.

Then it's perhaps something you need think on in your own time and come back to be.

Not a sexual suggestion.

I get that a lot.

Admittedly, I can think of at least a handful of moments where that could have come in handy.

Is that from your four years in Henrietta, or your time here?

Perhaps you can tell me about that sometime.

I killed my obsession and it didn't follow me to the City. I became a doctor, like I'd planned to back home, and then the threat of registration forced the rest open. Plus, I wasn't keen to beat my own record for being locked up and if you stage a mass break out then you'd better make it count.

[Now it's Victor's turn to pause in his reply. It takes a few minutes before an answer arrives.]

I'm more the man from the City than I am the man who came here. I wasn't interested in going backwards to an earlier point of inexperience.

[ And over in Nonah, Kavinsky's question makes Victor smile too, maybe he even makes a small noise of amusement. There's a particular brand of irony in the question being phrased in that way.

Victor would have killed for Joey in the same way way someone who was so inclined may break a theif's fingers for stealing a keepsake or family heirloom.

But Joseph Kavinsky feels like a firework in Victor's hand that could threaten to light it's own fuse at any moment. And Victor would look him in the eye and with a wolfish smile, all teeth, say "Go ahead, Joseph. Strike the match."]

Fucking is generally a low priority on my to-do list.

But for the sake of argument, would I, if were you more like him?

Unlikely.

Why do you assume he's the one with the better odds now?
